Overview:

We are looking for a creative, innovative artist with a passion for working with young children to facilitate virtual classes. The Sculpting Instructor will teach young children from ages 5-7 on how to create small sculptures using modeling clay/Play-Doh and other simple household materials. The instructor will prepare students to present and speak to one art piece as part of a virtual showcase at the close of the semester.

Volunteer Duties:

• Conduct virtual classes for a group of young children once or twice per week for our winter semester (January-March 2021).

• Must draft a full curriculum that outlines all lessons from week-to-week and materials needed to perform projects.

• Teach students the fundamentals of sculpture using their hands and basic, age-appropriate tools.
• Prepare students for a virtual showcase performance in March 2021.
• Complete weekly session notes following each class
• Regularly communicate with parents to provide updates on their child’s progress, reminders about upcoming sessions, materials list for individual sessions, and other communications as needed.
• Maintain consistent communication with program directors via email and participation in scheduled facilitator meetings to update on student progress, class attendance, etc.

Volunteer Requirements:

• Prior experience in sculpting required
• Patience to work with young children preferred
• Strong interpersonal & communication skills
• A art degree or certification is a plus but not required
• Must be 18+ years old

Location: Remote

Hours of work and duration of commitment: Must be available 5 hours per week (Monday - Friday) between the hours of 2pm and 6pm EST. Minimum 3 month commitment from January through March 2021.
