Overview:

Are you an illustrator able to draw in comic book style? If you are, then I’RAISE needs you! We are looking for an energetic illustrator to teach youth at the middle and high school levels in this fun, imaginative style of drawing. The instructor will prepare students to create an art piece and speak to it as part of a virtual showcase at the close of the semester.

Volunteer Duties:

• Conduct virtual classes for a group young adults and teens twice a week
• Must draft a full curriculum that outlines all lessons from week-to-week and materials needed to perform projects.

• Teach students on basic comic drawing techniques like line, strokes, curves, shading, highlighting, etc.

• Engage the students during the class and help them develop imaginative and creative skills.
• Complete weekly session notes following each class
• Regularly communicate with parents to provide updates on their child’s progress, reminders about upcoming sessions, materials list for individual sessions, and other communications as needed.
• Maintain consistent communication with program directors via email and participation in scheduled facilitator meetings to update on student progress, class attendance, etc.

Volunteer Requirements:

• Prior experience in drawing comic book illustrations is preferred
• Prior experience working with teens and young children is preferred
• Excellent sense of design and color theory
• Strong interpersonal & communication skills
• A degree or certification in Art Illustration is a plus
• Comfortable working in a virtual environment
• Must be 18+ years old

Location: Remote

Hours of work and duration of commitment: Must be available 5 hours per week (Monday - Friday) between the hours of 2pm and 6pm EST. Minimum 3 month commitment from January through March 2021.
