Phoenix Metro Urban Forestry Roundtable - Project Coordinator

Objectives - Phoenix Metro Urban Forestry Roundtable

  • The goal of the Phoenix Metro Urban Forestry Roundtable is to: Over the next five years, we will work collaboratively to improve tree care and planting in Metro Phoenix in ways that will measurably mitigate urban heat island, improve local air quality and prioritize environmental and social justice outcomes through municipal and private investment in trees - particularly in vulnerable neighborhoods currently lacking tree canopy.
  • The Roundtable has five committees: data, tree stock, tree maintenance, communications, and fundraising

Role Purpose
The purpose of the Project Coordinator position is to ensure that the Phoenix Metro Urban Forestry Roundtable is being effective and that all stakeholders are engaged. For over a year, AZSA has been the convener of the Phoenix Metro Urban Forestry Roundtable with American Forests and the City of Phoenix. The Roundtable consists of stakeholders from all sectors - nonprofit, private, and government. Each committee has its own goals. The data, tree stock, and tree maintenance committees are identifying projects that will need support from both the fundraising and communications committees.

Responsibilities

  • Be the point of contact for participants of the Roundtable for help, support, questions, etc.
  • Set bi-monthly meetings (currently via Zoom) and send invitations to all stakeholders
  • Ensure that the five committees are active in between the bi-monthly meetings
  • Support the five committees in any logistical needs they may have
  • Ensure that there are proper leads and co-leads for each committee (this may entail working with Roundtable members to find new leads and co leads)
  • Ensure that the list of stakeholders for the Roundtable is kept up to date
  • Ensure that the list of members for each committee of the Roundtable is kept up to date

Ideal Skill Set

  • Ability to learn new things quickly
  • Experience working with multiple partners
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently and as a team member
  • Knowledge of urban forestry/trees in Arizona

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per week

All AZSA positions are remote, with periodic fieldwork and other necessary in-person activities specific to the particular position.
