***This is a Volunteer Role*** Arizona Clean Energy Workforce Development (AZCEWD) - Program Assistant Arizona Sustainability Alliance (AZSA) Mission To create and support cutting-edge, project-based sustainability solutions in Arizona Programs Overview AZSA has five priorities: Conservation, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Food Systems, Urban Forestry, and Cities AZSA has many programs and projects across the five priorities Vision and Mission - Renewable Energy Priority Vision: Cultivate a sustainable energy culture shift where renewables are the norm in Arizona, not an afterthought Mission: Demonstrate renewable energy in creative, innovative, and interactive ways through projects that incorporate community health, connectedness, and beautification Mission - Arizona Clean Energy Workforce Development Program To provide opportunities to youth from underserved communities to create educational and career pathways in the clean energy industry Overview - Arizona Clean Energy Workforce Development Program The Arizona Clean Energy Workforce Development program is focused on accomplishing two essential tasks for Arizona: Providing job skills to students from disadvantaged communities Meeting demand for the high-tech clean energy sector By collaborating with disadvantaged school districts, public and private partners, and industry professional certification programs, this program will provide students with technical job skills in a variety of clean energy sector pathways. By empowering youth from these communities to acquire job skills in high-tech clean energy, this program aims to simultaneously address issues of equity and environmental justice. The program will focus on clean energy workforce development in the following areas (aka Tracks): Energy Management (current program) Building Science (future) Distributed Energy Resources Installation and Maintenance (future) Adaptive Design for Resilience (future) Students participate in a paid work experience and have the option to pursue a Micro-Certificate or industry certification to prepare them for an immediate transition into the clean energy workforce. After completing a two-year pilot with a small cohort of students in one track, the program will expand. Role Purpose Assist with administrative activities to support the success of all aspects of this program (design, implementation, and evaluation) by working with the Workforce Development Program Manager, AZSA volunteers, and program partners This is a pilot 2-year program beginning June 1, 2021, through May 30, 2023, and is expected to continue and expand into multiple tracks across multiple schools and increase the number of participants Responsibilities ( based on prioritization of needs and individual time commitment) Conduct research on various aspects related to the program (ex., Clean energy industry trends in technology, industry workforce needs, educational training options, equity, inclusion, professional development, etc.) Collaborate with the Workforce Development Program Manager and team to brainstorm ideas for current and future program tracks as it relates to educational pathways, job experience, program format, etc. Attend team meetings to provide general updates about the program Participate in trainings hosted by AZSA, or other organizations, as they relate to current or future program tracks Assist with preparing or proofreading various program-related documents such as the monthly program newsletter, blogs, program manual, training materials, standard operating procedures (SOP), etc. Be responsive to the Workforce Development Program Manager and the AZSA team Report all progress and information back to the Workforce Development Program Manager Ideal Skill Set and Qualifications Background or high level of interest in clean energy (i.e., energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric vehicles, microgrids, etc.) Education or work experience related to one or more of the following areas: Engineering, Sustainability, Teaching, Social Work, Technical Research, Creative Design, Technical Writing, Relationship Building, Workforce Development Experience working with educators and youth Experience cultivating and maintaining relationships with professional partners Excellent time management and organizational skills Intermediate or higher level experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace Excellent interpersonal communication skills Ability to draft professional written communication Self-starter who can work independently and as a team member Entrepreneurial; Enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus Energy Manager in Training (EMIT) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Certification or similar industry certification is a plus Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per week Location All AZSA volunteer staff positions are remote, with periodic fieldwork and other necessary in-person activities specific to this position. While all volunteer staff positions are remote, this position requires the person to physically reside in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. ***This is a Volunteer Position*** Arizona Youth Conservation Workforce Development (AZYCWD) - Program Assistant Arizona Sustainability Alliance (AZSA) Mission To create and support cutting-edge, project-based sustainability solutions in Arizona Vision and Mission - Conservation Priority Vision: Provide access to open space for all, particularly those without the adequate means to access natural areas across Arizona. Mission: Support native ecosystems, maintain and restore our desert habitats, protect biological diversity, and inspire youth to engage in responsible outdoor recreation within Arizona parks and preserves. Mission - AZYCWD To provide opportunities to youth from underserved communities by creating educational and career pathways in the environmental conservation sector Objectives - Arizona Youth Conservation Workforce Development Program Improve access to the conservation sector for youth from underserved communities disproportionately impacted by environmental degradation Provide job skills and develop college and career pathways for high school students from disadvantaged and Title I schools to meet the rising employment demand for the conservation sector Role Purpose Assist with administrative activities to support the success of all aspects of this program (design, implementation, and evaluation) by working with the Workforce Development Program Manager, AZSA volunteers, and program partners. This is a one-year workforce development program that will begin in the Fall of 2022 and end in the Spring of 2023. The program is expected to continue and expand into multiple tracks across multiple schools and increase the number of participants. Responsibilities Collaborate with Workforce Development Program Manager on various aspects related to the program (ex., Conservation sector trends in sustainability, nature conservation workforce needs, educational training, and professional development options) Collaborate with AZSA team, when necessary, to brainstorm ideas for the current program track Engage program participants during the program meetings with guidance from AZSA Workforce Development Program Manager Assist with preparing or proofreading various program-related documents such as the monthly program newsletter, blogs, program manual, training materials, standard operating procedures (SOP), etc. Be responsive to the AZSA team and Workforce Development Program Manager Assist with AYCWD field trip implementation and coordination (i.e., work with Arizona Game and Fish, outside organizations, and Workforce Development Program Manager) Attend and assist AZYCWD field trips, when needed, out at Robbins Butte Wildlife Area and other locations Ideal Skill Set Experience as a Program or Project Coordinator (Preferred) Background or high level of interest in the conservation sector (i.e., water conservation, riparian restoration, land management, wildlife habitat management, etc.) Experience working with educators and youth Experience cultivating and maintaining relationships with professional partners Excellent time management and organizational skills Intermediate, or higher, level experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms Excellent interpersonal communication skills Ability to draft professional written communication Self-starter who can work independently and as a team member Entrepreneurial; Enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives Bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred but not required Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per week Location All AZSA volunteer staff positions are remote, with periodic fieldwork and other necessary in-person activities specific to this position.
