One of New York City’s largest and most comprehensive social services agencies, BRC serves men and women who are homeless, or at risk of becoming so. BRC helps these neediest New Yorkers overcome the challenges of addiction, physical and mental illness, and poverty, and improves life in the community.
Throughout the years, with each holiday season, we do our best to host several celebrations prior to the holiday, as well as on Thanksgiving itself, at multiple locations at various programs throughout the city. Due to the current pandemic, we have severely scaled back most plans, but do intend to try and bring the spirit of the holiday to the men and women we serve.
If interested, please bear in mind the following:
- Masks must be worn at all times when on BRC property
- Your temperature will be taken (touch-free) upon arrival
- Anyone handling or serving food must wear gloves
- Wash hands and use hand-sanitizer frequently
- Social distancing guidelines must be observed
- If you are not feeling well the day of your assignment, please stay home and rest
Getting started as a volunteer is a simple one. If you would please take a moment to complete our New Volunteer Registration form ( https://www.brc.org/volunteer-registration ) Please be sure to indicate your interest in the Thanksgiving holiday! Once your form has been received, you will receive the full list of all shifts available at that time, as well as an invitation to our next scheduled orientation via Zoom so you can learn more about BRC, what we do within the community and how you can help this holiday and year-round. Attendance is required; there are several to choose from.
I look forward to receiving your completed registration form and getting you started. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in contact through this posting or visit our website at www.BRC.org for more contact info.
Please note: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older in most locations. Due to social distancing requirements, we are unable to accommodate groups.

Mission Statement
Helping people reclaim lives lost: We restore hope and dignity by offering opportunities for health and self-sufficiency.
Description
BRC: Helping People to Reclaim Lives Lost. BRC is a leading provider of housing and services to thousands of New York City's individuals in need. Offering a hand-up, not a handout, BRC asks one simple question: What can we do for you? BRC sees the potential in each individual it serves and provides each the opportunity to find it. Whatever our clients may seek, BRC has it, 24/7/365: outreach to homeless people living in public spaces, drug treatment, mental health care, comprehensive medical services, vocational services, and supportive communities in which to live. BRC succeeds by building trust with the people we serve; listening, and then acting, providing housing - both temporary and permanent. Building trust takes time, and a compassionate, dedicated staff of almost 1,000 employees and 1,000+ volunteers that persevere 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, never giving up.
