Are you always organizing and making lists? Help create and manage a digital inventory of donated childcare supplies and household items available at no cost to Cornerstone families in need! For this opportunity, you will be asked to take pictures of and organize donated items on-site at Cornerstone Center for Early Learning.

This is an in-person, socially-distant volunteer opportunity. In light of COVID-19, we are asking all volunteers to wear masks and to social distance while participating in volunteer opportunities at Cornerstone. When volunteers arrive, we will take their temperature and request that they sign a COVID-19 agreement. For the protection of volunteers, staff, and children alike, volunteers are not permitted to have direct contact with children or staff. If necessary, only one volunteer will be allowed in the building at a time, and their indoor access will be limited to sections of the Cornerstone facility where there are no children present.

About CORNERSTONE CENTER FOR EARLY LEARNING INC

Location:

3901 RUSSELL BLVD, SAINT LOUIS, MO 63110, US

Mission Statement

To provide quality, comprehensive, and affordable childcare and preschool education in a nurturing, creative environment for St. Louis-area families of all economic backgrounds.

Description

Since 1969, our organization has prepared students for a lifetime of positive social interaction and learning. A longstanding and respected leader in the early education community, we hold several endorsements, accreditations, and awards for early childhood education and child care. Our teaching methods encourage reflection, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity. Through "hands on/minds on" experiences, they build the early foundations of autonomous behavior, taking responsibility for their learning, and accepting the natural consequences of their decisions. In 2019, 88% of Cornerstone students scored "on target" or better on nationally normed screenings that compare outcomes with peers nationwide.

Cornerstone Center serves children of all economic levels and racial backgrounds. In 2019, of 207 students enrolled, 46% lived on annual incomes of less than $20,000, and 49% were members of single-parent households. Approximately 50% of families served were of African-American origin, 31% were Caucasian; 13% were multi-racial, and another 6% came from Hispanic and/or other backgrounds. Cornerstone works to strengthen low-income, high-risk families not only through scholarships, but also through Family Support Initiatives, such as an exemplary meal program and regular provision of diapering supplies.
