This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) International Services (ISD) team. This position supports the International Operations and Grants Management's Security Unit working in Washington, D.C. The Security Volunteer will support the ISD Security Unit by: researching security trends and policies in the humanitarian field, editing pre-existing policies and procedures, and drafting documents for new initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • The volunteer will support in the following areas
  • Collaborate with and support the International Services Department's (ISD) Security Unit on staff safety and security
  • Review ISD security policies and procedures
  • Revise and ensure uniformity and accuracy of existing documents as they relate to ISD and American Red Cross policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Identify and analyze global trends through internal and external sources
  • Research matters of humanitarian staff safety and security
  • Write reports and recommendations based on findings
Qualifications:
  • Availability during business hours to report to the DC office located at 431 18th St NW - required
  • Interest global in peace and security, international disaster management, or emergency response - required
  • International travel or work experience - required
  • Familiarity with global safety and security issues - required
  • Knowledge of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement - preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite - required
  • Fluency in other document design programs - preferred
  • Willingness to do basic research and administrative support, as well as data entry - required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, proficient research and analytical skills - required
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and work under deadline pressure - required
  • Self-starter, responsible, dependable, able to work independently and as part of a team - required
  • Must be comfortable sitting for long periods and working on a computer in an office setting - required
