Serving Our Neighbors Ministries

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 2 people are interested

This is an excellent opportunity to volunteer from home and have an impact on the lives of the children in your community. In Serving Our Neighbors, we are joining the city wide movement throughout Central Ohio to provide small, socially-distanced "Learning Enrichment Communities" (LEC) where children in grades K-12 have a SAFE space to focus on e-learning and receive help with homework by a mentor, a grab and go dinner, activity bags and social connection with peers. We are running 20 LECs at 7 locations, in 5 suburban school districts.

No matter the age, you can help by collecting the following items and creating activity bags that will be given to the children participating in the LECs (Learning Enrichment Centers):

8-pack Markers, 12-pack Colored Pencils, 2 pencils, Pencil Sharpener, 1 small-size Play-Doh, Composition notebook, 2-3 skeins of Embroidery thread, a deck of cards.

Please email our Volunteer Developer, Haifa Lopez at hlopez@son-ministries.org for drop-off instructions or visit our website https://son-ministries.org/ to learn more.

About Serving Our Neighbors Ministries

Mission Statement

To mobilize the community of Hilliard, OH by building relationships across socilal, racial, and class barriers and by partnering wuth childrens and their families in poverty.

We serve the community of Hilliard, OH where every one in five-in-a-half children lives in poverty. A large percentage of the families in poverty are refugees and immigrants, mainly from the Middle East and Latino countries, many who have recently come to this country. Twice a week we provide adult English classes for parents and daycare and homework tutoring for their children. We also run a 9 week free lunch program during the summer. In the 2010-2011 school year 3,577 children in the Hilliard district received a free or reduced lunch. During the summer children on reduced or free lunch are left without those services. Serving Our Neighbors Ministries found this need and decided to fill it. Every summer we run a free lunch program which includes breakfast, lunch, and a day full of activities. In summer 2011 we served a total 12,516 meals. In the five years the summer lunch has excited we have served a total of 28,862 meals.
