To mobilize the community of Hilliard, OH by building relationships across socilal, racial, and class barriers and by partnering wuth childrens and their families in poverty.
We serve the community of Hilliard, OH where every one in five-in-a-half children lives in poverty. A large percentage of the families in poverty are refugees and immigrants, mainly from the Middle East and Latino countries, many who have recently come to this country. Twice a week we provide adult English classes for parents and daycare and homework tutoring for their children. We also run a 9 week free lunch program during the summer. In the 2010-2011 school year 3,577 children in the Hilliard district received a free or reduced lunch. During the summer children on reduced or free lunch are left without those services. Serving Our Neighbors Ministries found this need and decided to fill it. Every summer we run a free lunch program which includes breakfast, lunch, and a day full of activities. In summer 2011 we served a total 12,516 meals. In the five years the summer lunch has excited we have served a total of 28,862 meals.
