ORGANIZATION: Jewish Family Service of San Diego

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, many San Diegans struggle with access to food and transportation. At the Jewish Family Service of San Diego, our Volunteer Drivers have stepped to support older adults, individuals with disabilities, and other vulnerable communities during this difficult time. Whether a volunteer is delivering groceries or driving a community member to their doctor’s appointment, each route or ride taken by a volunteer makes a huge difference in our community!

With different volunteer driving programs to choose from, we have something for you - whether you have 10 minutes or a couple hours. Plus, we reimburse you for every mile!

If you enjoy driving, creating lasting relationships, or giving back to our community, this is a great position for you.

Below are the available driving opportunities:

Project 19 Home-Delivered Meals Volunteer Drivers provide a no-contact delivery of freshly prepared frozen meals and/or pre-packaged groceries. Using your own personal vehicles, Volunteer Drivers will report to the JFS - Joan & Irwin Jacobs Campus for their AM or PM shift to pick up the boxed meals or groceries, receive their route, and deliver the emergency food to the residences of older adults. Drivers must commit to an entire 4 hour shift.

Center for Jewish Care Volunteer Drivers provide no-contact home deliveries of holiday packages to Jewish Community members in need on a Quarterly basis. Volunteers may also be contacted as needed for unexpected or emergency deliveries. Volunteers will be contacted in advance to schedule times and routes.

Foodmobile Delivery Drivers provide a no-contact delivery of prepared meals. Using your own personal vehicles, Volunteer Drivers will report to the JFS - Joan & Irwin Jacobs Campus to pick up the meals and any other supplies needed. Deliveries are made Monday to Friday between the times of 10:30am to 1:30pm. The volunteer shift will last about 2 hours.

OTG Drivers provide safe and reliable transportation to our older adults to ensure they remain active and connected to their community. Volunteer Drivers must give 2 rides per month for a minimum of 3 months.
