Quick Overview: Provide human resource and researching expertise at a nonprofit that serves unhoused people and their pets as it expands to more shelters in Los Angeles and more cities.

Organization Name: PalsNPets, Inc.

Organization Website: https://palsnpets.org/

Mission or Broader Program Description: PalsNPets is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to unhoused pet owners and their pets, providing services specific to the needs of this group through partnerships with shelters. Pets are often the only thing an unhoused individual has to care about, and many shelters don't allow pets. Working with shelters to make them pet-friendly also allows us to work with these individuals who are often the most in need and often have a higher potential to build a better future...two lives at a time.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: PalsNPets is a young nonprofit that is quickly growing and is looking for a Human Resources Researcher to assist. We are in the process of opening our fourth shelter in Los Angeles and are looking to expand further both here and in other cities. We are also hiring our first employees and the goal of this project is to develop an actionable employee handbook with standard operating procedures that observe California rules and regulations policies. The HR Researcher will be working alongside a lawyer on the board to:

Research and compile list of California policies and rules & regulations

Develop an employee handbook with the organization's systems, processes, and protocols

Scour list of grants and identify those which align with our goals and objectives, while eliminating those that aren't a good match.

Craft a grant proposal that uses clear, concise language to persuade the grantor that the organization applying for the grant is a worthy recipient of funds.

Respond to funder's questions about the grant proposal and develop relationships with prospective donors.

Must have an affinity for data, have effective research skills, be very detailed oriented, have a strong grasp of the English language, with an ability to write persuasively in addition to good people skills.

Be able to provide sample grant writing samples.

Grant proposals may be very involved, including a cover letter, proposal and supporting documentation per the grant's requirements. The proposal itself must do a good job of providing information about our organizations past, present and future activities and how the grant money would be used.

Requirements:

Past service in an HR role, professional development facilitator, and/or operations manager

Knowledge of best practices in staff management and development

Volunteers can work remotely. The time commitment is flexible, ranging from ADD TIME a week/month.
