HorsePlay's major volunteer needs are horse-handlers and side-walkers during therapy sessions. Locations are in Quitman, Conway, and Morrilton.

As a horse-handler, you must be comfortable around horses, have prior horse experience, and confidently groom, tack/untack, and lead the horse across uneven terrain in 30 minute periods in walking patterns specified by the therapist. Emergency training, signed HIPAA forms, and signed waivers are required.

As a side-walker, prior horse experience is preferred, but not required. Side-walkers are responsible for "spotting" riders for safety during the mounted portion of the therapy session. This is an interactive opportunity between the volunteer and therapy participant, which also requires walking through the arena over uneven terrain, standing/walking in 30 minute periods, and engaging in various play activities. Emergency training, signed HIPAA forms, and signed waivers are required.

Mission Statement

HorsePlay Hippotherapy & Therapeutic Riding, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Conway, AR. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for children with special needs. Qualified and licensed healthcare professionals utilize the unique qualities of the horse's movement to make functional improvements related to physical, occupational, and speech therapy goals.

Description

HorsePlay was founded in 2018 and is proud to offer services including physical therapy, speech therapy, also an occupational therapist who has achieved a national certification of hippotherapy clinical specialty. Our program's success depends heavily on volunteer support. In a typical speech, physical, or occupational therapy session using horses (called hippotherapy), we need at least one to two volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include side walking, fundraiser support efforts, handyman work, errands, horse handling and/or exercises, and others. HorsePlay also offers various intern opportunities as well as clinical observation hours for those students who may be interested in health care professions.
