End Food Waste by Transporting Unused Food

FoodCycle LA

WHAT: End food waste by delivering extra food to soup kitchens and pantries! Then, participate in impactful FoodCycle Driver "Happy Hours" to connect with other drivers and discuss your impact.

ABOUT FOODCYCLE LA: FoodCycle LA is committed to sourcing food supplies for local food banks and is coordinating donations from grocery stores, restaurants, warehouses, and others to be dispersed to various partner entities, who in turn put food in the hands of those most in need.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES: After signing up, you will input your location and availability in an app called ChowMatch, that will match you to donation partners and delivery times that work for you. Food donations will total no more than 50 pounds.

IMPACT: 1 in 7 people and 1 in 5 children are food insecure in Los Angeles county. COVID-19 is putting even more people at risk of going hungry, with lines at local food banks increasing significantly. Because of the pandemic, we've lost many volunteers that can no longer assist because they are at an at-risk age group. Now more than ever, we need new volunteers that can deliver food to our neighbors in need!

REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid drivers license.

You must:

not have been or felt sick in the last 2 weeks

not been around anyone who has been or felt sick in the last 2 weeks

bring your own mask

if possible, bring your own hand sanitizer

All volunteers must wear masks at all times.

You must wash your hands at the beginning and end of the volunteer activity, and any time after touching your face.

Physical contact is to be avoided and 6 foot distancing will be required.

Please avoid touching your face, eyes, nose, or mouth. Wash your hands immediately if you do so.

Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette.

ACCESSIBILITY: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project please the Opportunity Leader below.
