Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) abandoned our regular activities within the schools. However, our commitment to supporting children, families, and educators in North Chicago continues to be our main priority.  In mid-March, we developed a broader Community Care Plan that allows NCCP and its volunteers to serve the district and the community during this time of crisis. Our new programs provide the items our families most need at this moment - food, engagement and learning activities for students and families, and connection to a broader community of support.

The Volunteer from Home program is an important component of the Community Care Plan and designed to strengthen relationships and increase volunteer engagement and organizational capacity. Volunteers who participate in the Volunteer from Home program assemble components of student learning kits, teacher care kits, and other items for NCCP’s emergency resource distributions. The Volunteer from Home program allows individuals and families to make a difference from the safety and comfort of their own home and increases our impact in North Chicago. Participants receive 1-3 emails per month regarding opportunities to serve, and during the week(s) that they choose, pick up and return kits on Tuesdays to our office at 855 Skokie Highway, Suite D, in Lake Bluff, IL. NCCP is also facilitating out-of-home kit assembly projects for 6-12 individuals as well as outdoor restoration projects for 15-25 individuals.

Since March 30, more over 400 individuals of all ages have safely volunteered with NCCP.

Safety

NCCP is taking a number of safety-related steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help safeguard volunteers, customers, and NCCP employees. All volunteers are required to complete a Pre-Service Safety Survey BEFORE beginning home-based or in-person service activities. NCCP volunteers and partners follow guidelines for physical distancing and face coverings at kit pick up and drop off locations and during in-person service events. Clean materials, hand sanitizer, and disposable masks are available at all locations, and tool/equipment sanitizing stations and hand washing stations are available at in-person service events.
