North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) needs 50 dedicated and passionate volunteers to support elementary school students in District 187 during our After School Enrichment Program. Volunteers help children with r eading, math games, homework, and a variety of fun enrichment activities to foster gross motor skills and social and emotional development. Our staff will work with you to find a placement in one of our classrooms, enabling you to build relationships with the same group of students each week. Be the extra support that we need to expand horizons and provide the attention that each child needs and deserves. Volunteers are needed on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday afternoons from 3:00-5:00 PM. "Volunteering for North Chicago Community Partners is my favorite volunteer gig ever! I go every Tuesday from 3-5 to help an amazing facilitator with some amazing 8-year-olds in North Chicago. Due to the pandemic and inequities in education, these kids are behind. I truly feel as though I make a difference every week." - Volunteer who joined in September and has come weekly ever since!

Extending the school day is a critical component of the North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) community school model. In 2008 NCCP began developing a school-based after school enrichment program that provides a safe haven for students and response to the academic challenges facing the children in North Chicago. For nearly 12 years NCCP has continuously improved our program model which is designed to enhance and support in-school learning and introduces students to new topics through fun and activities. The After School Program at Neal Math and Science Academy (NMSA) offers students social-emotional learning, academic support, and valuable enrichment. The program reinforces skills taught during school, while enriching students with art, STEM, literacy, and collaborative projects. North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) helps students develop self and social awareness, responsible decision making, self-management, as well as build positive relationships with peers and positive adult role models in the community. NCCP volunteers help create an engaging, collaborative and encouraging environment for students to thrive. Program starts with refresh and refuel - a time for students to talk with peers and volunteers while eating a cold supper. Students then engage with enrichment lessons designed and facilitated by NCCP staff with support from our volunteers. Finally, students complete homework, receive tutoring from staff and volunteers, or engage in games and activities to support academic development. We are looking for friendly, patient, and collaborative people to help us support and empower middle school students!

You can uplift the North Chicago community by helping children and educators in North Chicago's traditional public schools thrive! North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) works to strengthen the North Chicago community through its public schools by providing academic, emotional, and physical support to students and families. Volunteers can engage with NCCP in a variety of ways - no matter your skills or interests, we have a volunteer opportunity for you. Want to work with children? Do you like to bake? Are you an organizational guru? We need your help! For in-school volunteers, no prior teaching experience is required, and an orientation and training will be provided. After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) Each volunteer is placed in an NCCP classroom at one of the traditional public K-8 schools in North Chicago, with an NCCP facilitator. Volunteers work alongside NCCP facilitators for an hour of academic support followed by an hour of enrichment activities that provide exposure to ideas while strengthening social and emotional resiliency, and building relationships. Join us for afternoons of learning and laughter! Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP) SEP provides a safe place for middle school students to develop academic skills, interact with positive adult role models, develop relationships with their peers and have fun. Volunteers serve as mentors and are invited to share their talents and passions by leading enrichment lessons. Sports and art are often enjoyed on Saturdays! Teacher Care/Baking Club NCCP’s Teacher Hospitality and Care program is designed to complement the district’s efforts to create positive school communities and strong supportive school cultures. By helping to bake treats for Staff Appreciation Lunches, or coming to the NCCP office to help put together Drops of Care, you can play a role in making a teacher's day, and be part of our efforts to retain and motivate staff through recognition and appreciation. Helping Hands From time to time, volunteers may be needed to assist with special projects around the NCCP office in Lake Bluff or our school-based food pantry at North Chicago Community High School. This is the behind-the-scenes work that makes everything we do possible! It is not glamorous, but it makes a difference. Projects may include tasks such as slicing paper, inventorying materials, stuffing envelopes, preparing activities, organizing spaces, loading/unloading boxes, and more. This opportunity can also be used to share specialized "pro-bono" work! Background Information: North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP) leverages a number of vital community partnerships and mobilizes thousands of volunteers to develop and implement our unique version of the "community school model" in North Chicago Public Schools. Through our model, we provide programs and support that complement classroom instruction, enhance student learning, strengthen school climate, actively engage parents and community volunteers, and address the needs of the whole child, all with the goal of increasing student academic achievement for all children in the community of North Chicago.
