Destination Imagination of New York is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to engaging participants in project-based , STEAM-focused challenges that are designed to build confidence and develop extraordinary creativity, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.

We are seeking Virtual Team Managers for our 2020-21 season. Destination Imagination has historically been an in-person activity, but in response to COVID-19 we are transitioning to a virtual format.

Team Managers serve as a team's coach and mentor as the team develops a unique solution to one of seven open-ended Challenges. Team Managers will schedule and facilitate once weekly team meetings, assist the team in learning new skills, and observe as they reach past their limits and experience the creative process. Team Manager training (and ongoing support) will be provided by Destination Imagination of California.

Your team's meeting time will be built around your availability. Teams will meet for one hour, one a week from the the week of 10/26 through through our Regional tournaments (March 13, 2021), with a possible extension through our state tournament (April 10 2021) and international tournament (May 21-25) depending on your team's placement.

All Team Managers are required to undergo a background check.

Mission Statement

The mission of California Destination Imagination is to empower California students to be curious learners, courageous innovators, and inspirational leaders.

Description

Now more than ever, instilling the values of creativity, collaboration, and innovation in our world’s future leaders is vital: According to the World Economic Forum, sixty-five percent of children now entering primary school will hold jobs that currently don’t exist. How do we prepare the next generation of leaders to solve some of the most daunting challenges this world has ever faced while working in fields we haven’t even yet identified? By nurturing their unbridled creative spirit to inspire and equip students to achieve anything they can imagine in life.

Every year, Destination Imagination offers challenges for more than 150,00 students across the globe to solve together - without the assistance of adults. All the ideas, concepts, research and even mistakes are part of an enthralling creative journey to solve the challenge on their own terms. Along the way teams also learn valuable life skills such as problem solving, project management, team dynamics, and perseverance.

Destination Imagination is an after school program for students K-12. Teams are made up of 2-7 students and an adult team manager. We train the adult Team manager and provide resources to work with teams. Teams meet virtually once a week for 1 hour at the Team Managers convenience and perhaps a few weekend afternoon meetings right before the tournament. . The cost per child is approximately $125 through the Regional Tournament.
