This is an in-person volunteer opportunity with students in the following areas: Oakland, Richmond, Berkeley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, San Francisco, and surrounding areas.
Community Education Partnerships (CEP) believes in providing quality education to students in the Bay Area who are homeless and to those facing housing instability. As a consistent presence in the life of a homeless youth, you can help build up that child’s confidence and instill a joy for reading and math that will help set them up for academic success.
We are seeking volunteers to join our team of in-person tutors. Social distancing, masks, and enhanced hygiene measures are required. All volunteers and students must be fully vaccinated. All volunteers must also complete a two-hour Mandated Reporter Training. Tutors are provided with virtual tutoring tools and training to ensure continued service during inclement weather and shifting pandemic risks.
As a CEP volunteer tutor you will:
- Work with a student for at least one hour per week
- Provide homework support and academic skill building
- Help our students develop literacy skills
- Have fun!
No teaching experience required and anyone 18 or older can volunteer. Session times are flexible and all of the necessary training is provided. Students range from pre-K through high school and are matched with tutors based on age and grade preferences.
