Love to have fun and laugh? Want to support Literacy and STEM for Oakland youth living at an emergency shelter? This is for you! Come join us during our drop-in Homework Help hours, arts & crafts time, STEM project time, and general program hours at our Children's Learning Center (CLC) in a shelter for families in Rockridge. We are looking for committed, flexible, and encouraging volunteers and mentors who want to show up for 1-2 hours, once a week at our CLC. Our greatest need is 5-8pm Monday through Friday. We provide youth ages 4-18 who live on site with: academic support, play time, a safe space, and all kinds of enrichment programs. Whatever your skills or interests are, we have a spot for you! The youth we serve thrive in 1:1 settings, and we are looking for caring teens (16+) and adults who can show up weekly to make learning fun and safe for our amazing group of students. Jumping back into school after the learning loss throughout COVID has been especially difficult for families who faced housing instability. At the CLC, we address this through making learning fun, and by taking a step back to work on basic building blocks that our students need to succeed at their grade level. Help keep our Children's Learning Center up and running by joining our general programs to be a helping hand and caring mentor.
