Help Adults Learn English - Online

ORGANIZATION: Aspire

Immigrants who have come to Dallas work hard to create better lives for themselves all while navigating a foreign and unfamiliar world. And what they want for their families is what any of us would want for ours. They are our neighbors and become our friends, but there often are not enough services and support to help them overcome their struggles. Aspire’s Volunteer ESL Instructors nurture our immigrant neighbors with resources and education, helping them increase their ability to communicate in English and their confidence to fully participate in the community.

Aspire is seeking adult volunteers to help teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to our adult learners. Aspire develops confident, capable individuals who value learning as a gateway to a better life.

We foster an engaging and compassionate classroom environment. Volunteers and students share an amazing experience as both parties participate in learning. Students share a deep desire to improve and volunteers get the joy of experiencing personal growth while watching their students grow.

Our online teachers’ key responsibilities / qualifications:

  • Facilitate classes with predefined curriculum and activities, and materials. No teaching experience required.
  • Lead online classes using zoom
  • Encourage students while working through the lesson and activities
  • Fluent in English and easy to understand
  • Patience, understanding and positive attitude

Join us as we work together to help make a lasting mark in people’s lives. We welcome both experienced and novice instructors. If you have not taught adults, we will help you gain the skills to be an effective instructor. We provide curriculum, training, and support.

LIFT and the Aberg Center for Literacy merged in July 2020, supported by the Better Together Fund. The new merged organization, Aspire, provides cradle to career learning programs for students of all ages - from early childhood to adults pursuing careers.

At Aspire, we believe learning turns obstacles into opportunities. Every day, we walk alongside our students as they make the brave decision to change their lives.
