Blood Drive RN (Registered Nurse) Volunteer

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Southern California Region

What is a Blood Drive RN Volunteer?

  • Oversee donor eligibility and donor reactions
  • Observe donors post-donation
  • Encourage donors to use RapidPass (our mobile phone registration app)
  • Educate donors on best donation type for their blood type
  • Build relationships and recruit new volunteers
  • Ensures volunteers are familiar with donor qualifications and complications

Why does the American Red Cross need RN of Record volunteers? California regulations require that any time blood is drawn under a license - it must be under the supervision of a physician or a registered nurse trained in the procedure. Without an RN of Record volunteer - life-saving blood wouldn’t make it to our Pomona donation center where it is processed and delivered to hospitals all over California.

Qualifications:
  • RN license must be active in the state of California.
  • A warm, friendly and gracious manner with a desire to help others.
  • Good communication skills to give verbal instructions clearly, politely and accurately to donors.
  • Customer service experience preferred with a commitment to putting donor first at all times.
  • Demonstrated dependability and punctuality
  • 2 blood drives or more per month

Training: Required training sessions broken down to 2-day virtual orientation (2 hours) and then 3-days of in-person self-paced online training (8 hours each day) held at Pomona Blood Center Headquarters (total of 5 training days)
  • Note: Cannot split up the training, miss a training day, come in late or leave early from training
