Red Cross Disaster Education Volunteer (Community Preparedness Educator) Save lives and prevent injuries by providing free education to community members by working with paid and volunteer staff and following program guidance. We provide preparedness presentations to youth K-12, seniors, and community members to prepare for home fires and other disasters. Volunteers can choose which audience and time frame they want to present to. Responsibilities: Conduct presentations ranging from 30-45 mins to 1 hour given to youths (K-12) in schools, seniors or businesses in community settings Complete 3 online training/orientation May assist with community outreach to schedule presentations at sites (optional) May mentor new presenters to help the region build a team of experienced youth preparedness presenters. (optional) Work as a team with the Team Lead and other volunteers and employees to build education program in the region Ensure all reporting data for each presentation given is collected and given to regional staff in a timely manner Other duties as agreed to between the presenter and the Team Lead Requirements: Script provided for presentations Familiarity with public speaking or presenting to groups Comfortable presenting Flexible/can choose between morning/evening shifts during weekdays Volunteer Locations available across Orange County, California! Disaster Health Services Volunteer The American Red Cross responds to the needs of residents during evacuation orders and need licensed health care professionals to help residents in our shelters. Safely transport blood from collection sites to the lab for processing and/or deliver blood or blood products to hospital customers. Be a part of the Red Cross’ ability to provide about 40% of our nation’s blood and blood components! Responsibilities: Transport blood from collection site to Red Cross laboratory Transport finished blood or blood products to hospital customers as routine or "stat" deliveries Pick up empty boxes from hospitals as necessary Deliver supplies to blood collection sites as needed Complete required paperwork and obtain signatures as necessary Communicate with Red Cross staff on feedback from customers or any urgent issues Drive in a safe and responsible manner as a representative of the American Red Cross Requirements: 2 shifts per month, for at least 6 months, preferably 1 year. Each shift is about 5 hours long. Shifts start/end from the Pomona (near CalPoly) processing site Valid state driver's license and 3 years of licensed driving experience, required Familiarity with geographic area and driving routes, required Able to verify safe driving record (Note: An MVR check will be completed as a part of the interview process for this position), required Current insurance and state registration if using personal vehicle, required Ability to lift 45 lbs., required Successful completion of American Red Cross Transportation Specialist Training and Defensive Driving course upon acceptance in position, required 18 years of age or older Volunteer Location: Pomona, California! What is a Blood Donor Ambassador (aka Blood Drive volunteer)? Help provide professional customer service in a medical setting to make blood donors feel inspired to return. Volunteer hours accumulated can be used to satisfy applicable class prerequisites, strengthen your skills, learn new skills, or potentially lead to a recommendation letter resource. Be a part of the Red Cross’ ability to provide about 40% of our nation’s blood and blood components! Responsibilities: Greet blood donors and help donors check-in using our tablets or laptops Engage and socialize with blood donors to inspire future blood donations Distribute snacks to blood donors Help answer FAQ about blood donations Manage the hospitality experience by offering refreshments to donors, thanking them for their contribution Alerting staff immediately if a donor shows signs of feeling unwell Minimum requirements: Mask needed regardless of vaccination status Able to commit at least 6 months At least one shifts per month (6-hour shifts) ***WEEK DAY ONLY*** we currently do not have a need for weekend volunteers Professional, clear, and diplomatic communication skills Punctual and dependable in arriving for shift Reliable transportation *Volunteers will have access to a 3-month online calendar and can schedule themselves for the shifts and locations of choice.
