Member Duties:
Our City Forest AmeriCorps Members are trained to be urban forestry & outreach specialists. They build capacity in the community by engaging volunteers and residents in cultivating plants at the community nursery, planting and caring for trees in neighborhoods, schools and parks, and fighting the drought through water conservation efforts. AmeriCorps members be trained on the best practices of maintaining a green and healthy urban forest in the Silicon Valley, strive to build capacity in the community and maximize volunteer participation by acting as coaches and coordinators, conduct outreach to residents and businesses to educate on best urban forestry practices and the importance of environmental stewardship, actively seek opportunities for greening projects, and organize and implement projects. 3 Position Types: 1. Program Details: AmeriCorps Service members are expected to commit to 11-months of service. The term being September 8, 2020, and ends July 31, 2020
Program Benefits: Health Coverage, CalFresh Benefits, Childcare assistance if eligible, $6,795 Education award upon successful completion of service, Training, 20,000 Stipend.
Terms: Permits working at another job during off hours, Uniforms provided and required.

Service Description: The mission of Our City Forest is to cultivate a greener, healthier urban environment and a renewed sense of community by involving Silicon Valley residents in the understanding, planting, and care of the urban forest. In this program, AmeriCorps members will be helping to organize neighborhood and school tree care and tree planting projects, providing basic tree care to thousands of trees, providing community and classroom education, and recruiting and training volunteers. Our City Forest is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic team committed to serving multicultural communities and strongly encourages applications from minorities and people who identify as LGBTQIA.

Our mission is to cultivate a green and healthy Silicon Valley by engaging community members in the appreciation, protection, growth and maintenance of our urban ecosystem, especially our urban forest.
Description
The ultimate goal of the program is to facilitate the planting of one million trees in Silicon Valley, utilizing one million people. We have planted over 70,000 trees in San Jose, encouraging community members to join us in improving the environmental conditions of their communities. We focus on making a healthy urban forest accessible to all by offering services targeted towards disadvantaged communities because we believe a healthy environment should be available to all people, not just those who have the resources to access it.
