If you are looking for a way to give back in the community between June and Thanksgiving, please consider our outdoor Farmer's Market as a hands-on opportunity to make a difference.

Volunteers who can give us two and a half hours on Wednesdays10:30 am to 1 pm are needed for our popular seasonal weekly Health Center's public Farmer's Market. You'll ensure vendors and shoppers are observing social distancing, hand sanitizing, staff information tables, and lend a hand. Bilingual Spanish/English desirable but not required. Volunteers must be COVID19 vaccinated.

Norwalk Community Health Center hosts a public Farmer's Market in its parking lot every Wednesday in season. It has provided access to fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, honey, and plants for the past 10 years and fills an important and growing need for our patients and in our neighborhood. In 2023, The Health Center's Farmer's Market patients-only voucher program, funded by individual contributions and support from organizations, made fresh produce more affordable as well as more accessible to food-insecure patients by stretching their food dollars. More than 500 patient families used these vouchers to stretch their fresh produce dollar to shop at our Farmer’s Market for seasonal local produce.

This is a meaningful opportunity for an individual or for a corporate or other group that wants to rotate employees or members from week to week.

Mission Statement

At the Norwalk Community Health Center (NCHC), we believe that accessible healthcare should be a vital part of every community. We are committed to serving as an active partner in the South Norwalk Community. It is our mission to provide healthcare services tailored to the needs of the community and to every patient, regardless of status or socioeconomic background.

Description

NCHC is a 501(c)3 Federally Qualified Health Center serving the underinsured/uninsured residents of Norwalk. We have a patient base of over 13,000 generating over 52,000 visits each year since opening April 12, 1999. We offer continuity of primary care in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and OB/GYN, as well as clinics such as pulmonology and endocrinology. We also provide adult and pediatric dental care and behavioral health for children, teens, families and individuals and free wellness programs for our patients and community outreach. Our integrated health team approach focuses on the wellbeing of each of patients and their families. Our health center is ranked in the top 10% of all health centers nationwide (1,400 health centers) for the quality of care we provide. In addition to our flagship facility, our Medical Mobile Unit goes into the community to serve those who can't get to our offices and those who might otherwise fall through the cracks. We also opened a second, smaller facilities in fall of 2020 at the Smilow Life Center, 55 Chestnut St, South Norwalk to provide improved access to residents of that neighborhood.
We also provide covid19 testing
