With 1 in 3 families unable to afford diapers for their children - something most of us take for granted, when you give a family struggling to afford diapers for their child a one-month supply, you're giving them and their family the gift of health and relieving stress of having to choose between diapers for their child and buying food or paying utility bills. With the cost of diapers prohibitively expensive for many of our pediatric patients, Norwalk Community Health Center is honored to be a Norwalk community partner of the Diaper Connection, a collaboration with Nuvance, Connecticut Hospital Association, and the Diaper Bank of Connecticut. Together we're working to ensure that newborns and toddlers have an adequate supply of clean diapers each month. As a diaper bank volunteer, working with our patient engagement coordinators, you'll staff a diaper bank table in the health center, assisting families. Although not required, being bi-lingual English and Spanish or Haitian Creole will be helpful.

If you are looking for a way to give back in the community between June and Thanksgiving, please consider our outdoor Farmer's Market as a hands-on opportunity to make a difference. Volunteers who can give us two and a half hours on Wednesdays 10:30 am to 1 pm are needed for our popular seasonal weekly Health Center's public Farmer's Market. You'll ensure vendors and shoppers are observing social distancing, hand sanitizing, staff information tables, and lend a hand. Bilingual Spanish/English desirable but not required. Volunteers must be COVID19 vaccinated. Norwalk Community Health Center hosts a public Farmer's Market in its parking lot every Wednesday in season. It has provided access to fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, honey, and plants for the past 10 years and fills an important and growing need for our patients and in our neighborhood. In 2023, The Health Center's Farmer's Market patients-only voucher program, funded by individual contributions and support from organizations, made fresh produce more affordable as well as more accessible to food-insecure patients by stretching their food dollars. More than 500 patient families used these vouchers to stretch their fresh produce dollar to shop at our Farmer’s Market for seasonal local produce. This is a meaningful opportunity for an individual or for a corporate or other group that wants to rotate employees or members from week to week.

Following the recent completion of an upgraded electronic medical system, we have installed patient sign-in kiosks in the lobby, so that patients can skip waiting in line to check in for their visit and see their medical, dental or behavioral health provider quicker. You'll assist and instruct patients who are tech-hesitant, not computer literate, and those who have questions regarding online registration. With a significant English-, Spanish-, and Haitian Creole patient population, Spanish-speaking volunteers are preferred. If you are comfortable with computers and tablets, have excellent multicultural interpersonal skills. are bilingual English - Spanish, and have two hours every week or so to help, we'd like to hear from you. You don't need to be a techie, just have basic computer and internet literacy; and a commitment to breaking down barriers to healthcare. we'll provide training. 'Adopting' a weekly shift is would also be a good opportunity for a business, corporate, association or church or fraternal group to get involved and give back to the community without disrupting work flow. Participating group members or employees would rotate filling the 2 hour weekly commitment. Contact our Development Office, 203-851-1018 to discuss.
