Our Animal Shelter is looking to add volunteers to an exciting role called Animal Control Assistant. These individuals will ride alongside our trained Animal Control Officers and assist in helping make our community a better place. Tasks include but aren't limited to:
Animal Handling using approved safety techniques & equipment in the field
Educating citizens on County Ordinances & Responsible Pet Ownership Measures
Transporting Animals using County Vehicles
Testifying as a county witness as needed for any cases that go to trial
Cleaning, organizing and re-stocking ACO vehicles as needed
Feeding, bathing, handling animals during intake at the shelter
Communicating effectively with team members ranging from shelter staff, to veterinary techs to leadership
Ride Alongs will start/end for the most part at the shelter located in Land O' Lakes, but some offsite meeting spots may also be established based on location needs such as county libraries. We are the County Animal Services department for Pasco County so we only service within Pasco County boundaries.

To ensure the health and safety of people and pets by encouraging responsible pet ownership through education, legislation, and providing incentives to sterilize pets.
Our Goal is to save 90% of the adoptable animals that come into the shelter. We strive to create community outreach and partnerships to educate Pasco County on responsible pet ownership. Our volunteers are an integral part of creating a loving and supportive environment for all shelter pets while they wait to find their forever homes.

We ask volunteers interested in this role have at least 1 day a week where they can commit to an 8 hour or more shift. However, volunteers are welcome to and encouraged to volunteer for more than once a week if they're able to!
Must be able to follow directions that may be given in fast paced situations. Must be able to follow county ordinances and refrain from providing personal opinions/experiences/recommendations when speaking to the public on behalf of PCAS.
