Covington First United Methodist Church Food Ministry is distributing free food boxes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and third Saturday of the month at the Food Pantry, Senior in-home deliveries on Tuesdays, and mobile food pantry first Saturday of the month.
Our greatest need right now is volunteers! There are times available to help pack boxes, load vehicles, register guests, and deliver boxes to senior citizens.
The first time to sign up with this new system, you will need to register with Hands on Atlanta. Let me know if you need any help signing up with our new system. (Press Ctrl + Click to activate the link.)
Volunteer Shifts: Please check out the links below to sign up. We no longer have an age cap for volunteers, although we do recommend that before signing up you consult with your physician if you are over age 65 and/or have underlying health conditions. We are following all CDC recommendations for community organizations and high risk providers.

At Home Projects If you are not able to volunteer in person at this time, we have projects with data entry (Oasis training required), making emergency bags with donations we have already collected, and making Super Packs with food that you purchase. For our Super Pack project, we are working with Action Ministries to develop our collection and distribution plan since the school system plans are changing. While we are working on those plans, we encourage you to continue working on Super Packs, and we will let you know when we have drop off scheduled. COVID19 Information We continue to follow guidelines for community organizations: - Wear a mask that covers nose and mouth (masks with holes or mesh are not sufficient) - Wash hands frequently with soap/water or hand sanitizer - Sanitize high touch surfaces multiple times a day - Work in small groups to maintain physical distance More information contact: Megan Hulgan - firstname.lastname@example.org / (770) 786-7305.
Hands On Newton's Vision : Every Newton County citizen is able to participate in meaningful volunteer service according to each one’s talents and interests to build a better community. Hands On Newton's Mission : Hands On Newton engages and empowers people of all ages in volunteer service through partnerships with local organizations and visionaries.
Hands On Newton (HON) was established in 2007 as a program of the Newton County Family Connection (NCFC) to foster volunteer service and civic engagement that address issues resulting from Newton County’s sudden and rapid population growth. Our choice to use the Hands On model ensures effective volunteer management.
HON has diversified and expanded Newton County’s volunteer workforce through one-time and ongoing service projects and service to other nonprofits. Volunteers participate individually, with their families, or with a group; HON actively collaborates with other community organizations and for-profits to create large-scale or long-term projects such as community gardens.
