Systematic Approaches to Police Violence

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: CIVIC WORKS

Accountability for violence is crucial to preventing it in the future, and an organized response will be most effective. Currently we are working on a nationwide event collaboration with neocities.org and we need volunteers to determine the two most egregious cases of police violence by state.

Generally this team works on

1) systematic collection of current evidence of police violence with dates/times/jurisdiction to be shared and followed up on,

2) reviewing previous cases of police killings of unarmed individuals, to follow up on and make contacts with anyone advocating for those cases (ie family members, or local groups)

3) assembling links to local initiatives and how to coordinate with them

For example, the site https://mappingpoliceviolence.org/compare-police-departments contains links to the articles of cases where police killed an unarmed person but no charges were filed, and can be sorted specifically about killings of black men and women. Bellingcat also has a list of recent incidents that involved journalists.

We have a sort of peer/mesh organization and you will be able to use initiative in cooperation with other team members to get right to work.
