Students need mentors now more than ever. https://winningfutures.org/volunteer/mentor?utm_source=volunteer-match&utm_medium=vol-board&utm_campaign=mentor-recruitment. School closures and stay-at-home orders have had a tremendous impact on our teens, not only affecting their education, but their social and emotional development too. When school resumes this fall, students will encounter a vastly different and, in some ways, even more challenging academic experience. They need the support and guidance of dedicated and caring virtual mentors who can help them navigate their new normal and work towards a bright future. Virtual mentoring is safe, fun, and impactful.
Winning Futures, a Crain's Best-Managed Non-Profit, operates school-based Workforce Prep programs in Southeast Michigan. We partner with Cass Technical High School (Detroit), Community High School (Sterling Heights), Harper Woods High School, Madison High School, Mumford High School (Detroit), Pontiac Academy for Excellence, and Warren Mott High School.
Help us empower local high school students for success by virtually mentoring this fall. Each virtual mentoring session is 30-45 minutes long. Mentors will participate remotely through a webinar service. The frequency and number of sessions will be determined on a school-by-school basis, however, we anticipate one small group virtual mentoring session every week or every other week, for 10-20 weeks, October through May.
We are actively seeking virtual mentors for the 2020-21 school year. You can learn more and apply: Apply Here.: https://winningfutures.org/volunteer/mentor?utm_source=volunteer-match&utm_medium=vol-board&utm_campaign=mentor-recruitment

Mission Statement
We help Metro Detroit students by providing the motivation, support, and skills needed to graduate from high school and become self-reliant adults.
Description
We help Metro Detroit students figure out what they’ll do after high school, then teach them the skills necessary for success. Career mentors are volunteers who coach our students as they navigate through the program. Sessions are held at a participating school, during regular school hours, and in a classroom with staff, teachers, students, and other career mentors present. Each session starts with a staff member who teaches a lesson. Then career mentors participate with students in a fun and structured activity that reinforces the lesson. Topics include career exploration, job and life skills development, academic and career planning, and goal setting. Sessions are held two or three times a month from November through May. Career mentors receive training before the program year starts and support before and during every session. 90 percent of our students are people of color. Participating schools are in Detroit, Harper Woods, Warren, Sterling Heights, and Pontiac. Get more information or apply online at Winning Futures.org.
