Role Description
The Director of Operations provides resources and operational support for efficient delivery of projects, and maintains organization processes and systems. The Director of Operations prepares annual operations action plans based on the organization goals set by the Executive Director and manages the Operations Team.
Responsibilities- Responsible for the delivery of an operations action plan that aligns with organization objectives, clearly delineates goals and methods of evaluation, and budgets for estimated activity costs and resource needs.
- Leads the Operations Team, ensuring oversight and delivery of project management activities and systems, and advising on prioritization and resourcing as needed.
- Develops, revises, and maintains organizational processes, and prepares plan for routine review and evaluation.
- Routinely reviews the project and document management systems, developing short and long-term plans for maintenance and/or expansion to meet the needs of the organization.
- Works with the Director of Human Resources to fill manager roles on the Operations Team and obtain other volunteers for activities as needed.
- As a member of the Executive Director Team, support the development of the overarching organizational strategy, and provide quarterly updates for communication to the Board.
- Participates in Executive Director Team meetings and activities, and communicates updates and highlights to the Team.
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours a week
Role Commitment: 2 years
This role is expected to be generally accessible to the Executive Director Team and the Operations Team, as well as responsive to emails.
As Rukundo International is a small, growing organization, the Director of Operations is expected to be a hands-on role, whereas all Operations Team duties are expected to be performed by the Director of Operations in the absence of other Operations Team members. The Director of Operations will have full support of the Executive Director and other Functional Directors.
Qualifications- Experience in managing projects and leading project teams, including managing stakeholder communications and project delivery.
- Experience developing and maintaining organization or team structure, ways of working, and processes, as well as writing of procedural documents.
- Demonstrates initiative, creativity and flexibility in problem solving
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and supervise others
- Committed to the mission of Rukundo International
- Experienced with MS Office and Google programs, AirTable a plus
- Qualified degree or equivalent experience
Reports to the Executive Director
Accountable for the Project Manager, Administrative Coordinator, and Systems Manager.

RI is currently partnered with Kyanamira - a small, rural community in Southwest Uganda - to create holistic, sustainable programs that provide opportunities for education, nutrition, hygiene, social development, & economic success. Working collaboratively with local government officials, community leaders, and the people, RI helps orphans, financially distressed families, and at-risk youth within the community.
