Description: Foster homes are the backbone of Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue (LLAR), allowing us to save thousands of lives each year and place them into loving adoptive homes. Fosters provide a safe, secure environment for our animals, and allow the animals to live a normal life in a home, preparing them to be adopted by a forever family. Fostering is a rewarding experience as you will help a pet blossom into the best dog or cat it can be.
Each animal is evaluated while in foster care for personality traits, behavioral and health issues, and any special needs. The foster home’s evaluation is critical to determine how each animal interacts with people and other animals. Knowing each animal well allows us to choose the best home for each pet and provides potential adopters with the opportunity to choose the best pet for their home.
As an LLAR foster home, you are responsible for the temporary care and feeding of any foster animals in your home. You can choose how many animals you foster at one time, but please be advised that if you are considering puppies they must be fostered in pairs or more.
Typically, each animal stays in a foster home between several weeks and several months. However, LLAR cannot guarantee that any animal will be adopted within a specific time period, and we advise that you take this into consideration when deciding if you would like to participate in our foster program. We ask all fosters to take care of the animals through their adoption.

Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue is a positive, professional 501(c)3 rescue organization that helps our community and shelter partners save more animals, more quickly by rescuing them, temporarily caring for them in our excellent, supportive foster homes and matching them with fantastic adopted pet parents.
We are a no-kill animal rescue based in Cincinnati and Staten Island, New York. We are proudly foster based, meaning our animals live in homes, not shelters. This allows us to more thoroughly get to know our animals, ensuring they are matched with suitable, screened adoptive homes that meet our high standards. In 2019, we saved over 2,600 animals.
We'll work with your schedule.
