Description: This position is responsible for interacting with and caring for the cats and kittens that Louie’s Legacy homes within a pet store. The Cat Caretaker helps our cats and kittens increase their adoption options and reduce their stress. Reports To: Foster and Adoption Manager. Location & Schedule: Partnered PetSmart in Plainville. Flexible with volunteer’s schedule. Time Commitment: Approximately 1-3 hours per/wk. We request a minimum of 3 months in this role. Core Responsibilities include: Feeding our cats and cleaning their cages. Helping us socialize them by giving them love and attention. Assist with facilitating adoption meets and finalizing adoptions for an approved applicant. Answer any questions asked by the store’s customers or staff. Consistently apply LLAR’s brand guidelines and communicate our Vision and Mission. Qualifications: Are you? A positive and professional teammate? Description: Foster Team Volunteers serve the critical role of making sure fosters complete all the steps necessary in order for the animals in their care to become adoptable. You will work with fosters to ensure that each animal in a loving, temporary home is appropriately cared for by screened and approved fosters, and documented prior to their adoption. In return, you will experience the incredibly rewarding experience of helping to save the lives of over a thousand animals in need every year. Reports To: Foster and Adoption Manager. Location and Schedule: Remote work. Days/hours vary based on the number of animals in care. Time Commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per/wk. We request a minimum of 3 months in this role. Core Responsibilities include: Foster Application Screening Interview prospective fosters and assess whether they would be a good match for Louie’s. The tasks for this role include Reviewing assigned foster applications for any "red flags" or "deal-breakers". For renters: verifying with a landlord or management company that pets are allowed, and confirming any pet restrictions. For pet owners: Checking a vet reference for resident pets. Review LLAR’s foster procedures and expectations with applicant - not limited to: Foster Do’s and Don'ts ◉ Transport pick-up/intake ◉ Quarantine rules ◉ Puppy protocols ◉ Foster timeline ◉ Bios & photos ◉ Adoptions Ensure the approved applicant has taken online foster training. Make sure all approved applicants have signed appropriate documentation. Log all foster information and screener notes in the Foster Database General Foster Team Operations Develop a comprehensive understanding of each available foster parent, their preferences, experience, expertise, and limitations. Reach out to each foster individually. Confirm placements with the volunteer Foster Coordinator and update the database. Posting pets "in need" in our private FB group and monitoring for willing fosters and volunteers. Communication Work closely with the Adoption and Foster Manager, volunteer Coordinator, and peers. Respond to all emails, Facebook posts and Slack messages relating to foster placement. Posting in our private FB Group and monitoring the post for willing fosters who offer help. Communicate with the adoption, medical and bios volunteer teams when a foster is relocated. Evaluate the foster process and make suggestions for improvements. Qualifications: Are you? A positive and professional teammate? An animal lover, committed to saving the lives of animals in need? An equally good people-person? An excellent communicator? Cool under pressure, able to calmly navigate high pressure situations? Able to engage in discussions with others about commitments. Extremely organized? Willing to gain a deep understanding of the fostering process? We prefer that you foster with our rescue. Willing to maintain open, honest, and frequent communications. Familiar with Google Sheets, Slack, and/or other administrative and data entry systems? Have access to a phone, computer, and internet access? Fostering saves lives! Every pet placed in a foster home opens up a space in a shelter for another animal in need. By fostering a pet, you just saved two lives. As a foster parent, you’re a surrogate family, taking a homeless dog or cat in need into your home and caring for the animal until the pet is adopted. Fosters help get pets adoption ready by: Helping a sick/injured pet get well Getting a pet used to being in a home Socialization with people and animals Basic training Promoting their foster online and at adoption events Providing love We’re looking for fosters who can: Provide a loving and supportive home to animals in transition. Comply with instructions from the Medical Team regarding medications and treatments of the animal. Work with the Medical Team to transport the animal to and from veterinarian appointments. Arrange to have photographs taken by one of our photography team volunteers in a timely manner. High quality photos help us get animals adopted quickly! Complete our biography questionnaire in a timely manner. Detailed and interesting bios attract attention and help animals find their forever home! Description: Assist fosters and staff with handling difficult dog behavior Reports To: Foster & Adoption Manager or Intake & Medical Manager Schedule and Time Commitment: Varies, but is typically 3-5 hours per week, depending on need. We request a minimum of 3 months in this role Location: Primarily remote. Core Responsibilities: Work with the Foster & Adoption Manager, the Intake & Medical Manager and/or the Foster Coordinator, who will advise which fosters need assistance When assigned, contact the foster within 24 hours regarding the pet’s behavior, collecting as many details and as much information as possible. Offer guidance for ways to rectify unwanted behaviors. If or when necessary, refer the pet’s case to the Foster & Adoption and Intake & Medical Managers who will determine the next steps (i.e., if this pet needs to see a vet-behaviorist) Based on the collected information, create a behavior profile/progress report of the pet including: Challenges/behaviors Suggestions What is working What is not working Copy the appropriate team members on all written communications with the foster Training: Provided by our Foster & Adoption Manager and the Intake & Medical Manager. Qualifications: A certification in dog training is required At least 21 years of age Comply with instructions from managers and coordinators Be familiar with a variety of different canine behaviors and methodologies for correcting unwanted behaviors. Willing to learn about animal behavior and enjoy working with people as much as animals

You will help ensure each animal has a loving, temporary home prior to its arrival. This is a critical position that will require consistent effort and excellent communication. Location and Schedule: Remote work. Days/hours vary based on the number of animals in care. Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per/wk. We request a minimum of 3 months in this role. Core Responsibilities include: 1) Placement Develop a comprehensive understanding of each available foster parent, their preferences, experience, expertise, and limitations. Match incoming animals with the most appropriate available foster. Reach out to each foster individually. Gain commitment from fosters that they will pick up their animal at transport. Work with the Intake and Medical Manager to acquire the medical history of incoming animals. Update and maintain the foster database with appropriate placement information. 2)Communication Work closely with the Adoption and Foster Manager, volunteer Coordinator, and peers. Respond to all emails, Facebook posts and Slack messages relating to foster placement Post an intake album on our private FB group page Work with the returns coordinator for any pet that is being returned to the rescue.
