Approximately 250 volunteers participate as Crew members each year and provide an unforgettable experience for every 2-Day Walker. They provide assistance at the hotel, keep Walkers safe and hydrated on the route, and are a constant source of encouragement throughout 2-Day Walk weekend.

All Crews are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and with a 75% return rate each year, availability for some Crews may be limited. We will make every effort to assign you to the Crew of your choice, taking into consideration your experience, skills, and capabilities, along with the needs of the event. Some Crews involve heavy lifting and/or prolonged standing, but there are plenty of opportunities to be involved that are less physically demanding.

Crew members must be at least 18 years old to participate and at least 25 years old to drive a motorized vehicle during 2-Day Walk weekend.

On Sunday, Event Services Crew members move to B’Rest Stops or Closing Ceremonies sites.

The Route Marking Crew is responsible for identifying and marking the entire 30-mile route for 2-Day Weekend. They place directional signs, barricades, and safety cones as needed to keep Walkers safe and on route. Route Marking Crew members must be capable of heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds.).

Hydro

Bicycle (Bike) Crew
Bike Crew rides alongside 2-Day Walkers throughout the entire route, including some greenspace areas where motorized vehicles are not allowed. They are often first on the scene if a Walker is injured or fatigued and needs to be taken off the route. Bike Crew members must provide their own bicycle, helmet, and safety equipment.

Sweep Crew

Sweep Crew patrols the route in passenger vans, providing support to any Walker who may need assistance. Mission Statement

It’s The Journey, Inc.’s mission is to support Georgians by raising money for breast health and breast cancer programs that focus on screening, diagnostics, genetic counseling and testing, support services, and research.

Description

It’s The Journey, Inc. - producer of the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer - is a local organization founded 15 years ago by a breast cancer survivor, Randi Passoff. When the Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk pulled out of Atlanta in 2002, Randi, a long time walker, decided that Atlanta needed a fundraising event wherein all of the funds stayed local to support Georgia breast cancer patients and breast health programs. She created what we call "the kinder and gentler breast cancer walk." Instead of the 3-Day model of walking 60 miles over 3 days and sleeping in a tent, the Georgia 2-Day Walk covers 30 miles over 2 days and participants sleep in a hotel.
We are looking forward to the 2018 Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer on September 29-30. And we never forget the purpose of the 2-Day Walk - which is to raise funds for breast cancer programs throughout Georgia. In March, we will hold our Grantee Celebration where we will award grants to Georgia breast cancer programs. Over the past 15 years, It’s The Journey has funded 335 grants totaling $14 million to support breast health programs throughout Georgia. It’s not just the walk; it’s the journey.
