More than 34 million individuals, including 9 million children, are food insecure in the United States.
Grocery prices have jumped 12% in the past year; the sharpest increase since 1979.
The need for our work has never been more vital.
Food Rescue US is dedicated to eliminating hunger and food waste (keeping food out of landfills and reducing greenhouse gasses). We engage volunteers and food donors through our proprietary web-based app to directly transfer nutritious excess food to social service agencies serving the food insecure. Food Rescue US is a national organization with 40+ sites across 21 states and DC. Since its founding in 2018, Food Rescue US - Hartford has provided 8490,000+ meals and kept 1+ million pounds of food from landfill. Food Rescue US volunteers choose the rescue that fits their schedule and their car size and transports donated food from our donors to a local social service agency. This is all done using our software; our goal is to make it as easy and flexible as possible. Rescues are designed to take an hour or less and there is no minimum commitment when someone registers as a rescuer. The process of food rescuing is quick, simple and extremely rewarding. Food Rescue US is committed to ending American food insecurity by directly transferring fresh, usable food that would have otherwise been thrown away from restaurants, grocers and other food industry sources to food insecure families throughout the U.S.
Description
Food Rescue US exists as a platform for the rescue of healthy surplus food, to be direcctly transferred to those in need. Hunger is no longer just a challenge to the homeless and jobless, hunger happens near us; it happens to families we know, to people with jobs and homes who are trying desperately to make life work.

This platform is a toolbox of information and we focus on training, technology, and coordination to make volunteering and donating as simple and effective as possible. We're not saying that ending unnecessary hunger in our communities will be easy, but we do believe it's simple and that all of our efforts when combined form something substantial. In this case, since we began, that is over 17 million meals delivered and 28 million pounds of food saved from landfill.
