Want to help? Interested in working with people with challenges? Like horses?

Side walkers walk along side our horses and provide emotional and physical support to our clients. Special bonds are formed and this can be an extremely enriching experience for both volunteers and our clients.

Horse handlers are responsible for bringing the horse down to the arena for the lesson, leading and managing the horse during the lesson, and then returning the horse to the barn. Horse handlers need to have a willingness to learn our horsemanship techniques to keep handling skills consistent for our horses.

We typically need volunteers in 1 hour classes Monday through Friday between 8:30- 6:30pm.

We are also looking for summer volunteers!
Summers at Windrush are a special time. Clients and volunteers attend week-long sessions which culminate in a memorable Windrush Horse Show at the end of the week! Volunteers help with barn chores, leading horses in lessons, arts and crafts, and summer fun on the farm!! Summer volunteers should have some experience with horses and Windrush will provide all additional summer program training on-site. We ask our summer volunteers to commit to at least one full week - it provides consistency for our riders and allows you to create a relationship with your person and their horse. Please contact us to join in the fun! Summer programs start in June!

Please email us at to start the application process.
Thank you for considering us as your volunteer opportunity!

Mission Statement

Windrush Farm is a nonprofit horse farm specializing in teaching individuals of all abilities to ride and work with horses. Windrush expands and enriches the personal, emotional and physical abilities of all those we serve by partnering with our horses and the environment.

Our volunteers are the backbone of our program! We couldn’t offer our unique therapy without their hard work and dedication to our riders. They come to us as working students, horse handlers, side walkers, barn help, fundraising committee members, student interns or as individuals just looking to give something back to society. You do not need to have horse experience to volunteer with us!

We invite you to join the Windrush community and discover the power of volunteering!
