Interested in working with people with challenges?
Join our vibrant volunteer community on a beautiful horse farm! Windrush Farm is a therapeutic riding center helping people with all kinds of challenges in their lives. Our mission is to promote confidence, independence and well-being in children and adults with physical, cognitive or emotional challenges through therapeutic riding and horse related programs.
We need people to help our clients in horseback riding classes.
Side walkers assist our riders during their lesson, everything from helping them physically stay on the horse to giving them encouragement and emotional support. They focus on the rider and create enduring relationships with them!
Horse handlers are responsible for bringing our horses down to the arena, then leading and managing the horse during the lesson. Horse handlers will need to learn our horsemanship techniques to keep handling skills consistent for our horses.
We are looking for volunteers for our Winter session which starts on January 2, 2024, but our biggest need will be for our Spring session which starts February 26. We'd love to get you trained before then!
The minimum age for volunteering is 14.
Volunteers must be able to keep up with a horse at a walk and a trot.
We typically need volunteers in 1 hour classes Monday through Friday between 8:30- 6:00pm. If you can't commit to a regular time each week, we always need subs!

Windrush Farm is a leading provider of equine-assisted services that includes therapeutic riding and horse-related activities, for children, teenagers and adults with physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges. Windrush is a Premier Accredited Center, a designation awarded by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) to centers that exceed industry standards for programs, instruction and horse care. Founded in 1964 by Marjorie Kittredge, Windrush has also earned the award, Massachusetts Horse Farm of Distinction, for many years.
