Helping homeless people during the covid-19 crisis
1 person is interested
The New York Avenue Presbyterian Church is partnering with the Downtown BID and World Central Kitchen to provide food and comfort to homeless people, who are further marginalized because of closed services due to the covid-19 outbreak. World Central Kitchen and the Downtown BID provide food, and BID personnel and our volunteers serve the meals in front of the church. Our volunteers also greet guests and escort them to bathrooms in the building, which is otherwise closed. If you would like to volunteer, you can sign up at www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d4ba9af2ca1fc1-triangle

About The NY Ave Presbyterian Church
1313 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20005, US
...We come from across the metropolitan area and witness for peace and justice as a downtown congregation in the center of the nation's capital because of the church's rich history and the challenges offered which help us to grow in our faith... We make our first priority those who are vulnerable: the elderly, the children, the mentally ill, and the homeless. We see the city blocks around us in their busyness as one of our frontiers. We continue to lead vigorously toward social justice and to use our building to promote it. We are called to take a leadership role in the shaping of our downtown neighborhood...
We are a downtown congregation who sponsor multiple community outreach programs, including the longest running one-on-one tutoring program in DC, a JCAHO licenced Day Treatment Center for the chronically mentally ill, and a Meals-on Wheels program, among others.
