Mission Statement

...We come from across the metropolitan area and witness for peace and justice as a downtown congregation in the center of the nation's capital because of the church's rich history and the challenges offered which help us to grow in our faith... We make our first priority those who are vulnerable: the elderly, the children, the mentally ill, and the homeless. We see the city blocks around us in their busyness as one of our frontiers. We continue to lead vigorously toward social justice and to use our building to promote it. We are called to take a leadership role in the shaping of our downtown neighborhood...

Description

We are a downtown congregation who sponsor multiple community outreach programs, including the longest running one-on-one tutoring program in DC, a JCAHO licenced Day Treatment Center for the chronically mentally ill, and a Meals-on Wheels program, among others.

Everyone was very nice and helped me get situated right away. I worked in the women’s clothing area, and it felt great to give back, especially in the cold months where coats/jackets are needed. I would definitely do it again, the 7am Sunday time was just hard for my schedule.

I’ve volunteered the past four weeks at Radcliffe Room. If you are looking for a DC opportunity to help feed & serve those in need, this is awesome! The group is so welcoming too. And it’s only a few hours on Sunday mornings. They do prefer someone willing to become regularly involved. Those coming for meals recognize you and look forward to seeing you too. I highly recommend!
