Role Purpose:

We are looking for dedicated Speechwriters to provide first class written material, including high quality speeches, messages to support AHO’s corporate and campaigning activities

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

The purpose of the Speechwriter is to manage the communication of the Director through specialized knowledge and provide strategic communication support to senior management. Under the overall direction of the Director, the Speechwriter is responsible for the following:

  • Draft speeches, statements, messages, press statement, briefings and written communication for the Director ensuring high level of consistency, accuracy, content and presentation for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Undertaking original research on a range of development topics as needed to inform the speech/lecture and soliciting inputs from across the organization as needed;
  • Analyzing complex information, including statistics, financial information and other numerical, qualitative and quantitative data, to extract key messages for integration into speeches/lectures and other communications material as required;
  • Researching audience expectations, event agenda and topics, and assist in focusing the purpose of each speech or lecture to tailor messages for audience appeal and impact.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or studying Journalism, English Language, Literature in English, Communications or Political Science, or its equivalent;
  • At least 3 years experience of speech writing in a charity or business environment;
  • Ability to write effectively at speed and accurately;
  • Lateral thinking and ability to synthesize complex material;
  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of another AHO language is an asset
  • A good understanding of international development health issues, and the interface between NGOs, the media and the public.
