Africa Health Organisation (AHO) Role Description

We are looking for dedicated Gender Equality Policy and Strategy Volunteers to work with the Head of Gender Equality on designing and writing the Plans, Policies and Strategies for our 20 critical programmes on gender equality in Africa and the Diaspora.

The role is responsible for shaping the development of the charity’s incipient critical programmes for international health work, focusing mainly on African men, women and girls.

Specific Responsibilities

The Volunteers are responsible for writing Strategy and Plan of Action on our 20 critical programmes:

I. To support the Head of Gender Equality in writing a Strategy and Plan of Action on the following 20 critical programmes:

  1. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Education Equity and Equality.
  2. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Women and Girls’ Health.
  3. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Men and Boys' Health.
  4. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Child Protection - Policies and Procedures.
  5. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
  6. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Ending Child Marriages.
  7. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Child and Teenage Pregnancy - Policies and Procedures.
  8. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Teenage Pregnancy
  9. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Child Nutrition and Malnutrition.
  10. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Child and Youth Health.
  11. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Children's and Adults' Bullying in Homes, Schools, Playgrounds, Work, and Cyberspace.
  12. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action for Children and Adults in Disasters and Emergencies.
  13. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action for Vulnerable Groups, such as Children, the Elderly, Disabled People, Boys, Girls, and Women, in Disasters and Emergencies.
  14. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action for Ending Violence Against Women and Girls.
  15. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Ending Maternal Mortality in Hospitals, Clinics, Traditional Places, Religious Places, and Others.
  16. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Girls and Women and Vulnerable Boys Empowerment.
  17. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Promoting Nutrition and Ending Malnutrition in Africa and the Diaspora.
  18. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Education for Girls, Vulnerable Boys and Adults Not in Employment, Education, and Training.
  19. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Conservation for Animals, Vegetation, Ecosystem and Enfing Conflict Between Men and Animals.
  20. AHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Disaster Preparedness in Wars, Droughts, Floods, Veld Fires, Large Events like Football, Music, Festivals, Domestic Violence, Violence Against Women & Girls, Epidemics and Pandemics, and Others.

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Honours, Master or doctorate in any subject such as social sciences like international development, sociology, women's studies, gender studies, global health, public health, medicine, economics, statistics, mathematics, sciences, STEM subjects, engineering, psychology, anthropology, biology, biological sciences, political science, politics, geography, geology, marine sciences, and any subject relevant to your chosen topic.
  • At least two (2) years of experience writing reports at school, authoring/contributing to publications, or researching in a research institute like a university, college, institute, charity or think tank.
  • Good broad knowledge of the wider health and social determinants of health
  • Analytical skills
  • Knowledge of gender equality issues, especially women and girls and vulnerable boys and men.
