National String Symphonia

Hello! Please consider joining our board and supporting the arts in our community. Our young small non-profit is searching for ways to grow. We seek more board members that have
knowledge in finance, legal, major gifts and other resources that would support our long term mission and vision. Our role as the member of the board is to be the community advocate of the orchestra as an investment! We have wonderful leaders and a music director who understand music and engage our concert attendees. Our board would increase in strength, diversity, and knowledge, when you join as a member of the board. We ensure the operation side of the NSS is running smoothly by supporting & monitoring the executive director, approving & providing oversight of the budget, and giving & encouraging donations.

Here’s a view of the orchestra where we once sang with a choir. So beautiful! https://youtu.be/WnJCMEjaYQ0

Checkout our webpage and plan to attend out next concerts March 13st or the March 15th. OR May 1st or May 3rd, http://www.nssorchestra.org/calendar.php

Let me know if you are interested in attending before these dates, send me your email, and I'll arrange for a free ticket to one of our concerts! I look forward to hearing from you.

Mission Statement

The National String Symphonia (NSS) strives to preserve, promote, and present string orchestra music through a diverse array of concert performances, educational workshops, and innovative programming in the Greater Washington, DC area and beyond. Artistic Vision Statement: The NSS is committed to presenting music at the highest levels of musicianship and artistry. Vision Statement: The NSS envisions a world in which art music is a meaningful part of the shared experience of a universal community.

Description

Founded in 2013, the National String Symphonia is a professional symphonic string orchestra. Its mission is to preserve, promote, and present string orchestra music. Many ensembles do not program this repertoire for a variety of reasons, including its relative obscurity and its musical complexity as well as basic challenges in obtaining performance materials.

Our goal is to reach beyond the archetypical orchestra audience and become an integral part of the musical life of listeners at all ages and stages. We seek to innovate the concert experience, and we are exploring new and different ways of presenting the music. Since 2022, we have begun a program called #WildStrings and performed "in the wild" (i.e., outside the confines of concert halls) including libraries, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. We strive to increase accessibility to and relevance of the music while ensuring high-caliber performances.

The universality of the music and its makers is reflected in the makeup of the NSS. Our members represent a wide age range, hail from all over the world, and bring a variety of experience to our organization.

The NSS continues to grow rapidly. While COVID-19 forced the cancellation of our concerts in 2020, we are now back with a full concert line up. We have performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, as well as other venues in Baltimore, Silver Spring, Wheaton, Germantown, Columbia, and Frederick, MD.
