ORGANIZATION: Ohlone Humane Society


Volunteer with Ohlone Humane Society's Pet Therapy program!

Interested in sharing your loving animal with those in need? Do you have an especially well-socialized animal companion who loves to interact with people? Become a volunteer therapy animal team-together, you and your companion animal can make a difference!

To become part of the team, you must be at least 18 years old and have a cat or dog more than 1 year old that you’ve owned for at least 6 months. All animals must be up to date on shots and veterinary exams.

  1. Complete classes in obedience training and/or the AKC Canine Good Citizen course.
  2. Pass an Ohlone Humane Society Pet Therapy Program temperament evaluation of your pet.
  3. Fill out the Ohlone Humane Society volunteer form at
  4. Join the Ohlone Humane Society
  5. Complete a shadowing/mentoring session with your pet and one of our teams.

We also welcome all teams with previous pet therapy experience or who are part of a pet therapy program such as Pet Partners or Therapy Dogs International.

Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, miniature pigs, miniature horses & donkeys, birds and llamas/alpacas are all welcome.

As one of the few humane societies that maintains a wildlife rehabilitation center, Ohlone Humane Society truly advocates for all creatures--from injured or orphaned native species to abandoned companion animals.
