"Now in their time of need, we have a chance to honor them" We are seeking compassionate Veterans or veteran-connected volunteers willing to serve Veterans and their families at end of life. Veteran Volunteer activities may include: *Non-medical Companionship with friendly visits that support emotional well-being and active listening that supports reminiscing *The opportunity to participate in pinning ceremonies and distribution of certificates honoring the service of our Veteran patients *Participation in community education events, strengthening relationship within the veteran community and improving care through the end of life for Veterans *Participation as a member of our We Honor Veterans Committee forming in 2020
Hospice Volunteer Training is provided free of charge. Hours are flexible with no minimum expectation. Apex Hospice and Palliative Care is a 3-Star member of the National "We Honor Veterans" program. Honor your military service by honoring those who served with and for you. Please note that during the COVID-19 crisis, personal visits with patients are restricted, so this may not be the best time to volunteer. However, it MAY be exactly the right time to sign up, and safely receive your training so that when restrictions are lifted, you are ready to go! We look forward to working with you!

APEX Hospice and Palliative Care seeks to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families who are facing a terminal illness. We focus on quality of life by providing comfort, company and active treatment of distressing symptoms, with the patient and their family as the focus of care. Services are provided by a team of professionals and volunteers who are physician directed and nurse coordinated. Comfort and coping resources are provided to the family for up to 13 months following the death of their loved one. "Family" is patient defined, and may include friends, significant others, life partners and relatives by blood or marriage. It is the expectation of APEX Hospice and Palliative Care that all employees and volunteers are strongly committed to the dignity and worth of each individual human being. Integrity and responsibility are expected conduct in all contacts with patients, families, other service providers, coworkers and the public.
