Purpose: To provide on-site childcare for parents who attend the Nurturing Families support group at Catholic Social Services, which is a supportive skill building group for parents as a method for child-abuse prevention.
Tasks: Watch over children as they eat a snack, color, draw, play, etc.
Monitor children to ensure they remain safe.
Requirements: Likes children, offer comfort when needed, and can resolve minor spats and squabbles. Volunteers will NOT be asked to do any diaper changes or toileting.
Volunteers should also be able to bend and lift small children. Having a background in early childhood education or teaching is preferred, but not required. Volunteers should also be able to pass a background check and willing to undergo some training pertaining to child safety and agency policy.

Child Safety Center Advocate-

Tasks: Greet guests, answer phones, make copies, and attend to clients. Keep children comfortable through play, friendly and neutral chatting, coloring, etc., while their parents are being interviewed by counselors.
Alternately, volunteers will keep parents comfortable by offering neutral conversation, coffee, water, etc., when children are being interviewed.
Volunteers are also asked to keep a watchful eye upon goings-on in the waiting area and report any problematic conversations between family members to staff, as well as to report any family members who should not be present near the child.
Volunteers will be trained in all of these areas.
Requirements: Volunteers must enjoy being around children ages 3-12 years old and occasionally teenagers. Having a background working with children is a plus, but it is not a requirement.
