Join us in Crown Heights for a Hunger Free America Community Outreach/Canvassing Event. We will meet at the Crown Heights Branch Brooklyn Public Library at 12pm on Saturday March 21st for a brief orientation. We will then go out into the community to distribute fliers with information on SNAP (the federally funded program formerly known as Food Stamps). We will then regroup at the library for a short debrief and reflection period.
Community Outreach is an important part of Hunger Free America's mission to end hunger. Community Outreach helps to increase access to federally funded nutrition programs and decrease stigma in the community.
As well as being a benefit to vulnerable communities, Community Outreach Events educate and connect volunteers to issue of food insecurity in New York City. Volunteers become empowered to talk about SNAP, the benefits of the program, and how one can apply for federally funded assistance.

HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
