LIVE ALONE SUPPORT

ORGANIZATION: Homeland Hospice

Many Homeland Hospice patients want to reside independently in their home for as long as possible. Our volunteer who makes the weekly Live Alone Phone Calls is an important part of the team that can make that possible. Once a week, a volunteer calls to check in and see if the patient's every day needs, such as groceries and meal preparation, are still being met. Our volunteer is also another "social connection", helping to reduce patient isolation and improve quality of life.

Volunteers are provided support and a sample script to effectively make the calls. The phone calls can be made from the Homeland Hospice or from the volunteer's home provided the calls can be made in private. It would also be beneficial if the volunteer is able to use the Homeland Hospice encryption program on their computer so the patient information can be shared between the volunteer's home and the hospice office.

Hospice volunteers are required to complete an orientation, which can be done as a self-study in the comfort of the your own home, and at your own pace. Volunteers are also required to complete a background check and a 2-step PPD test (TB). Any costs are covered by Homeland Hospice.

Join our team and help us make a difference in the life of the people we serve!

* Homeland Hospice is located in Harrisburg, PA. Volunteers need to be in the Dauphin, Cumberland or York county area so one-on-one interaction and proper support can be provided to the volunteer from the Volunteer Coordinator.
