The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program is looking for volunteers to serve at an organization that works to s upport, protect, and advocate for children referred for suspected sexual or physical abuse. Children and parents attend meetings at this center to undergo the interview process for open abuse investigations, as well as for counseling.

Roles and Responsibilities

Office V olunteer :
G reet guests, answer phones, make copies, and attend to clients. Volunteers will keep children comfortable through play, friendly and neutral chatting, coloring, etc., while their parents are being interviewed by counselors.
Alternately, volunteers will keep parents comfortable by offering neutral conversation, coffee, water, etc., when children are being interviewed.
Volunteers are also asked to keep a watchful eye upon goings-on in the waiting area and report any problematic conversations between family members to staff, as well as to report any family members who should not be present near the child.
Volunteers will be trained in all of these areas.

Research volunteer:
Are you someone with experience with re search, program evaluation, or analysis? Work with staff to create a custom role for you that involves these components in order to support this organization in a unique way.


Qualifications
Volunteers must enjoy being around children ages 3-12 years old and occasionally teenagers. Having a background working with child ren is a plus , but it is not a requirement. Volunteers should also be able to pass a background check and willing to undergo some training pertaining to child safety and agency policy.

Time/Schedule
Shifts are available Monday-Friday from approximately 9am-12pm and 1230pm-5pm. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one shift per week for 4 months.
