English and Spanish Speaking Medicare Volunteer Counselor Wanted

IMPORTANT: This volunteer opportunity has a mandatory requirement to attend trainings 4 times a year from 1-4pm, usually on Thursdays. If you work full time or are a student, you'd need enough flexibility in your schedule to attend these critical trainings. You or anyone in your family must also not have an insurance license to avoid the appearance of any conflicts of interest.

I'm looking for a volunteer who speaks English and Spanish to help me promote the Seniors Health insurance Information Program (SHIIP) to non-English speaking populations and to provide cost-free, objective Medicare counseling for them. No experience necessary. Online and in house training provided. SHIIP is part of the North Carolina Department of Insurance. It is in practically every county in North Carolina. In one form or another, it is in most states in America.

SHIIP counselors cannot recommend insurance plans or tell people what to do. We just explain how Medicare works to inform them well enough so they can make the choices for their health care needs. This is a volunteer opportunity where you get to use you mind (problem solving, etc) and your heart (compassion in action).

We often save people money on plans and on the cost of medications. This is a most gratifying volunteer opportunity where you get to help a lot of people and help yourself as you reap the benefits of helping others and giving of yourself to the many people in need of help understanding and choosing Medicare plans.
