Become an integral part of the Volunteer Services Team by helping new volunteers find their perfect position at the American Red Cross!
Volunteer Screener's are often times the first person a perspective volunteer will talk with as they are going through the application process! Screeners work with incoming volunteers to determine where their interests lie, what their skill sets are, the amount of time that they can commit to volunteering and help to refer the new volunteer to a position in the Red Cross! In this exciting position you get to meet and interact with many people and are essential to helping the Red Cross fill needed volunteer positions.
The Volunteer Screener position can be done from the office or from a remote location, whichever option best fits the screeners needs.
Screener responsibilities include:
- Schedules and conduct volunteer screenings over the phone with prospective volunteers
- Studies and learns each volunteer position description
- Prepares for each screening interview
- Asks identifying questions during the interview, appropriate to the volunteer position requested
- Provides candidates with information about intake, referral and placement process
- Matches volunteers to positions for which they are best suited, based on skills, interest and availability
- Updates Volunteer Connections (our online volunteer management system) with candidate information and makes referrals as required
Qualifications include:
- Broad understanding of the American Red Cross (training provided)
- Enthusiastic about Red Cross programs
- Ability to work with computer database (training provided)
- Excellent oral communication skills - ability to express ideas and facts clearly
- Comfortable making phone calls to potential volunteers
- Previous experience with customer service is a plus
- HR experience is a plus
Training is provided to the screeners at no cost. The Red Cross asks that screeners provide 5-8 hours of service a week.
