ORGANIZATION: Keep Music Alive

  • 10 people are interested

Keep Music Alive is a national non-profit based in the Philadelphia area with a mission to help more children (and adults) reap the educational, therapeutic and social benefits of playing music. To help us do that, we founded two international music holidays: Teach Music Week (March) and Kids Music Day (October). We now partner with over 1,200 music schools, music stores and organizations to offer free lessons to new students and to hold special events that benefit and celebrate kids playing music. Year-round we host Musical Instrument Petting Zoo events throughout the Philadelphia region at schools, libraries and community festivals (expanding nationally in 2024). These events are like a "please touch museum" for musical instruments where kids of all ages have an opportunity to interact with acoustic/electric guitars, ukuleles, keyboards and dozens of different types of percussion instruments.

Would you or someone you know be interested in serving on our board? We are looking for diverse candiates from all professions who are passionate about giving more kids the opportunity to play music....not because we want them to become professional musicians (although some will), but because we want to give them the best chance at success no matter what career path they choose later in life. There are a variety of ways board members can help further our mission on an ongoing basis. We invite you to start a conversation with us to see if a Keep Music Alive board position would be of mutual benefit to you and our organization. Thank you!

Responsibilities will include attending 4 to 6 board meetings/year, 8 to 10 committee meetings/year, utilizing your personal and professional network to help with our fundraising efforts. We are absolutely open to your ideas of how you can help us sustain and expand our impact. Total time commitment ranges from 6 to 8 hours/month.

Qualifications are very minimal - No musical skills or experience is required. If you are passionate about helping more children have the opportunity to play music we would like to connect with you.

Keep Music Alive seeks to have diverse representation on our board. BIPOC and LGBTQ candidates are encouraged to apply
