Keep Music Alive Mission

Greetings and Thank you for your interest in this opportunity!

Keep Music Alive is a national non-profit with a mission to promote the value of music. Our ultimate goal is to help more children (and adults) reap the educational, therapeutic and social benefits of playing music. To help us do that, we founded two international music holidays: Teach Music Week (March) and Kids Music Day (October). Each year, we now partner with over 750 music schools, music stores and other music non-profits to offer free lessons to new students and to hold special events that benefit and celebrate kids playing music. Would you or someone you know be interested in serving on our board? We have made great strides in our organizations short 5 year existence, including impacting 5,000 kids in 2019 and over a dozen celebrity artists supporting as Kids Music Day Ambassadors including Julie Andrews, Jack Black, Ann & Nancy Wilson, Sarah McLauchlin, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Kenny Loggins, Richie Sambora and more. There are also several music brands that support as media partners for both Teach Music Week and Kids Music Day including Casio, Conn-Selmer, Alfred Music and REMO. To continue our growth, we need to bring on some fresh faces along with their knowledge and experience. At your convenience, please let us know if this is something you would be interested in discussing or if perhaps there is someone in your circle we should contact.

We are looking for music, education & arts professionals who are passionate about giving more kids the opportunity to play music....not because we want them all to become professional musicians (some will), but because we want to give them the best chance at success no matter what career path they choose later in life. There are a variety of ways board members can help further our mission on an ongoing basis. We invite you to start a conversation with us to see if a Keep Music Alive board position would be of mutual benefit to you and our organization. Thank you!

Mission Statement

Our Keep Music Alive mission is to promote the value of music: for children's education, for the many types of therapy now utilizing music, and for our overall happiness as a society. Our goal is to increase the number of kids and adults reaping the educational, therapeutic and social benefits of playing music.

Keep Music Alive is the founder of two international music holidays: Teach Music Week (3 rd week in March) and Kids Music Day (1 st Friday in October). Teach Music Week is designed to encourage musicians and music schools everywhere to offer a free lesson to new students (kids or adults). Kids Music Day is designed to encourage music schools and retail locations to hold community events featuring kids and music. In 2017 , there were over 600 music schools and retail locations participating in these two music holidays.

Kids Music Day now appears in the official Chase Calendar of Events and several large chains have participated in Teach Music Week/Kids Music Day including Guitar Center, Music & Arts, School of Rock, Music Together, Kindermusik and Long & McQuade. We are seeking volunteers to help make Kids Music Day and Teach Music Week internationally recognized holidays that serve as annual rallying points for music education.
