Position Summary

Minnesota Children’s Museum’s Family Learning department is responsible for maintaining a pulse on, and upholding a high level of knowledge and expertise in, the field of early childhood and parent education. We work closely with the many talented and dedicated people within various departments to bring the mission, vision, and philosophy of the Museum to life in a unified way. This position is responsible for assisting the Family Learning department with professional development and family learning initiatives.


Major Job Accountabilities

This is an estimate of the duties to be included in this internship. The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern and museum staff. All duties will be carried out with the direction and supervision of the Family Learning department staff.

* Work collaboratively with Family Learning department, staff, volunteers and visitors to support Family Learning initiatives such as Family Nights and workshops for parents, staff and volunteers

* Assist in the research, organization and preparation of materials or other relevant resources to support professional development in Early Childhood Education, Family Learning, and Parent Education

* Conduct observations of professional development and family learning initiatives to provide understanding and feedback.

* Assist in creating and using evaluation tools and feedback data to improve professional development and family learning efforts

* Compile data and generate reports. Present information to Family Learning


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

1. Formal education in related field (early childhood education, parent education, psychology) or related experience with child development and playful learning with adults and children

2. Demonstrates initiative (e.g., in starting tasks, asking questions, identifying and discussing problems, ability to structure own work, stay on task)

3. High level of enthusiasm, energy, and professionalism

4. Ability to quickly know and understand, at a high level, the fundamentals of Museum learning experiences for staff, volunteers and visitors

5. Ability to understand the organization’s strategies and how they relate to the goals and objectives of the Family Learning department

6. Ability to express ideas clearly both vocally and in writing

7. Ability to use informal evaluation methods to inform learning and ability to make necessary improvements based on the results

8. Ability to explore ideas and implement with creativity, imagination, and resourcefulness

9. Ability to apply knowledge and area of expertise to the museum setting and add value to identified priorities and goals
