Communities In Schools of Tacoma

Winter Wish is a program that supports around 350 children and families who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability by providing warm coats, blankets, pajamas and other cold-weather necessities during the holiday season. Families are invited to attend a celebration event to enjoy food, festive activities, and get a picture with Santa!

We are in need of volunteers to help the event run smoothly--volunteers can help with a variety of tasks like helping to set up, checking families in to the event, passing out food and beverages, helping to direct families to different activities, and helping with cleanup at the end.

Mission Statement

To surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. We achieve our mission by providing the 5 Basics: A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult; A healthy start and a healthy future; A safe place to learn and grow; A marketable skill to use upon graduation, and a chance to give back to peers and community.

Communities In Schools is part of the 5th largest youth development organization in the country. We are the only ones proven to increase graduation rates AND decrease dropout rates.

We serve as the bridge between the student and the community, bringing in resources that help break down the barriers that students have to be successful in school.
